Deadlines

As I struggle to meet guidebook deadlines, I invite you to have a look at the piece on zucchini (courgettes to some of you) and other summer squash that I've just published on the BBC Food website.

Zucchini flowers in a basket

At the risk of alarming any of my editors who might be reading this, I'm struggling at the moment to meet various guidebook deadlines. This leaves little time for more frivolous pastimes like going to the beach - I'm so pale that my friends burst out laughing when they see me in the street - or blogging. At the moment all I can think about is clearing my desk and my conscience before I take my ten-day holiday in Arles and the Cévennes in mid-August. My life should be back to "normal" by the end of the summer, so please bear with me for the next few weeks, when I'll be blogging infrequently at best. In the meantime I invite you to have a look at the piece on zucchini (courgettes to some of you) that I've just published on the BBC Food website, which happens to be one of my favorite sources of recipes and ideas. This article contains dozens of suggestions for dealing with a glut of zucchini and other summer squash, with links to BBC recipes. Pictured above is yesterday's harvest from the Cours Saleya market. I ended up throwing the flowers onto my ridged cast-iron grill pan alongside the zucchini slices, with surprisingly delicious results.
