Menu for Hope: Win a Paris food itinerary, bid item EU19

Menu for Hope-2

I often think that the next generation will be the one to save the world. Sam confirms it when he asks Santa for only one present and refuses to let me buy a real Christmas tree, arguing that it's a waste of precious resources. Even if I know that my generation has probably created more problems that it has solved, it's always heartening to participate in a project that brings direct rewards to those who are in the greatest need. That's why each year, in the midst of the Christmas rush, I like to make a little time for Menu for Hope.

This year's fundraiser, created and run by food bloggers who already have a lot on their plates, will raise money for the United Nations World Programme's Purchase for Progress program, which assists low-income farmers to raise crops and support their local economies. In the past Menu for Hope has raised more than $92,000, and the goal this year is to top that. That shouldn't be too hard to do, considering the tempting items offered by food bloggers all over the world. Visit Chez Pim for the complete list of items and David Lebovitz to see the European items. For $10, you can try your luck at winning autographed cookbooks, rare kitchen tools, cooking classes and perhaps even a Paris food itinerary designed by yours truly.

I founded Edible Paris in 2003 after having edited several editions of the Time Out Paris Eating and Drinking guide. Having lived in Paris for more than ten years, I realized how overwhelming the choice of shops and restaurants can be and how often things change. To create my custom-designed itineraries, I draw on my experience reviewing hundreds of restaurants and visiting food shops and markets all over the city. I also work with two "food gurus" who help keep Edible Paris current and lead guided tours when I'm not available. The process of designing a written itinerary begins with a questionnaire and ends with a package that will keep you happily walking and nibbling for a full day, complete with restaurant recommendations and maps to help you locate each place mentioned.

The full day itinerary, worth €195, can be yours for just $10 - though, of course, buying more tickets increases your chance of winning. Don't forget to make your bid by December 25th, the last day of the raffle. And please tell any friends who might like to take part (and bid for other prizes!).
